3D effect for slip trailing?

Any suggestions please to make slip thick enough to hold its shape, so to give a slightly raised up 3D relief effect on the clay?
Many thanks for any help.

I would first try just getting rid of water. Let the slip sit around then pour of the top water...repeat.

If this does not work, mix up a recipe and add dry to it.

Hi, I experimented and this worked for me. Pretty simple. Strain your body clay ( what you threw with) from your slop bucket through one of your glaze screens. You have to experiment with how much water to use. If it is thick enough to sit up on a spoon without flattening out, that would be a good start. Karon

Try a blender. Go to the thrift store and get an old one. I got one for $1.50. Just add small chunks of clay and water and blend. It makes a nice smooth slip. If it is too thin, add more clay. If it is too thick, add some water. This is an easy, quick way to make slip.

I save the sloppy material that scrapes off on your fingers as you throw. It tends to be fine textured and just about the right consistancy. You may have to add just a little water as it drys out. If you buy a baby med syringe (no needle, made to feed cough syrup to an infant) you can push out the slip for decorative effects.
